Our 2025 Open Day & Fair was a truly joyful celebration of our school, full of colour, creativity, music, delicious food, and the warm community spirit that defines MRSS. Walking through the grounds, it was inspiring to see so many people connecting, helping, laughing and enjoying the day together.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR PARENTS — Your dedication, creativity and generosity continue to be the beating heart of Fair Day. Each year we are moved by the way parents step forward, baking, crafting, organising, lifting, setting up, running activities, packing down, and doing countless jobs seen and unseen. In a year of organisational transition, your willingness to adapt and support made all the difference. Every class contribution was wonderful, and together you created a day that felt warm, welcoming and full of life. We are deeply grateful for everything you gave.

THANK YOU TO CLASS 4 FOR EMBRACING A NEW ROLE — This was the first year in which Class 4 stepped into its restructured Fair role: leading the set-up and pack-up under Simon’s direction, and creating the overall visual theme for the Fair, including poster artwork, signage and decorations. This is a substantial contribution, and Class 4 embraced it with energy, positivity and creativity. Their work could be seen everywhere, from Friday’s preparations to the beautiful visual cohesion across the school grounds. Thank you for stepping into this new role so holeheartedly.

THANK YOU TO TEACHERS & ALL MRSS STAFFF — The classrooms were gorgeous this year, full of depth and expression. Many visiting families, alumni and community members remarked on the rich learning so beautifully represented throughout the school. The VCE art and senior school displays were also outstanding and much admired.
Your work preparing for Open Day is immense, and we thank you for sharing the children’s learning with such care and reverence.

THANK YOU TO OUR MUSIC STAFF AND STUDENT MUSICIANS — Music is always at the heart of our Fair, shaping the mood and lifting the spirit of the day. Thank you to our dedicated music team and to all the students who performed so beautifully. Your contributions brought joy, rhythm and warmth to every corner of the school.

THANK YOU TO CONNIE, THE DINING ROOM STAFF & CLASS 7 PARENTS — The Dining Room is always one of the great delights of Fair Day. Thank you for the extraordinary effort, generosity and skill poured into every dish. The long lines were a testament to the quality and care evident in every meal.

THANK YOU TO THE MRSS MAINTENANCE STAFF — Across Fair Preparation Day and the Fair itself, the maintenance crew, Simon, Ned and Julian, worked tirelessly, coordinating equipment, supporting classes, lifting, moving, fixing, problem-solving and ensuring that everything ran safely and smoothly. Your efforts underpin the entire event, and we cannot thank you enough.

THANK YOU TO GANGA GIRI — A HUGE and special thank you to Ganga Giri, who stepped in at the last minute to provide an incredibly moving Welcome to Country and play his didgeridoo. Many people commented on how deeply this resonated with them, and it created a profoundly moving start to a beautiful day. Your music and presence added such heart to the opening of our Fair.

THANK YOU TO CLASS 8 — The Fair Prep Day BBQ was such a welcome boost for all the helpers working on-site throughout the day.

THANK YOU TO YEAR 9 AND EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED OUR LOW-WASTE INITIATIVE — The reusable crockery and dishwashing system continues to be a wonderful example of conscious, sustainable practice. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its organisation and operation — and to all who embraced it on the day.

To everyone who contributed in any way — thank you. A day like this is only possible because so many people come together with generosity, enthusiasm and heart.
We hope you all feel proud of what we created together.

Music on Fair Day

Music at the Fair was such an amazing celebration of music at MRSS. From the Class 3 students playing recorder for the Maypole right up to Class 12 VCE Music students performing material from their final examination programs, plus students at the very beginnings of learning their instruments.

The school was literally overflowing with the sounds of students performing music. There was the Class Orchestras Concert in the Hall, string performances in the Kindergarten and the Gym, the Vocal Groups and the VCE Concerts in the Eurythmy Room, Community Singing in the Oak Hall Gardens, and our epic never-ending band concerts in the Hall, which started at 12:15pm and didn’t conclude until 6:45pm, featuring every class level in the Secondary School, from the Class 7/8 and Class 9/10 Ensemble Concerts to the After School Bands and then on to the VCE Ensembles which also featured BOTH, who have been a part of the After School Bands for the past five years.

Music at MRSS is all inclusive and is for everyone. Each and every student is nurtured and supported exactly where they need to met by our music staff to develop their abilities on their instrumental skills, to work together in ensemble groups, and when the time is right to facilitate the development of their artistry and personal expression and develop their personal voice. Each of these musical endeavours is valued and celebrated equally.

Heartfelt thanks to our tremendous Music Department, all of whom have worked tirelessly in the lead-up to, on the day and across the past year to bring these performances together. Fair Day 2025 was a sensational day for music at MRSS.
