Some of the Year 12 Biology students have been undertaking practical investigations into bacterial growth. After designing their own investigations, the students conducted controlled experiments to test their hypotheses. There was a range of research questions focusing on substances that inhibit bacterial growth. Students investigated the effectiveness of various food preservation methods, hand sanitisers, natural remedies and antibiotics, pH levels, and the role of sugar in bacterial growth.

The students have been incredibly motivated and engaged throughout the investigation process. We were all very keen to see the results once the agar plates were removed from the incubation oven. The students have now completed the experimental stage and are currently analysing and interpreting their results.
