Class 5 – Greek Olympics
Last Friday, the class five students from Mansfield Steiner School, Little Yarra Steiner School, Ghilgai School, Sophia Mundi Steiner School, Mornington Park Primary School (Steiner Stream) and Dandenong Ranges Steiner School joined us here at MRSS for a Greek Olympics Day.
Once the ‘citizens of Greece’ were welcomed, oaths were made and the declaration from the mighty god Zeus was given by the High Priestess, all was ready for the athletes to enter the events: the marathon, the javelin, the long jump, the discus, the wrestling and the dash.
To see the children of the different schools come together and enjoy a day of competing, striving and testing themselves in the games, we were all able to truly live into the picture of the different city-states of Ancient Greece, laying down arms and coming together for the original Olympic Games. Winners were judged on sportsmanship, helpfulness, valour, determination, balance, grace and beauty of movement, as well as distance and speed.
We are grateful to Katherine who organised the event and prepared the children throughout the year in Gym lessons. Thank you also to the parents who provided a Greek feast for our lunch. After anticipating this day all year, by day’s end we were all completely sated and happy.
