The Enrolment Process

Thank you for considering Melbourne Rudolf Steiner School for your child’s education. Enrolment at MRSS is a multi-stage process, and the process varies slightly depending on the intended year of entry. The initial stages of the enrolment process are the same for all year levels:

As communication about enrolment will usually be via email, please save the enrolments email address (enrolments@mrss.vic.edu.au) as safe so emails do not go to your spam/junk mail. Please also ensure your contact details are kept up to date while you are on our waiting list. If we cannot reach you, we will place your application on hold until we hear from you and we will move on to the next person on the waiting list.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is one of two main entry points into MRSS and we have an open entry policy for Kindergarten. Places are offered to siblings of currently enrolled students and are then offered in order of application date.

All kindergarten applications are placed on a waiting list and positions are offered for 4-year-old Kindergarten approximately 18 months in advance of commencement.

If a Kindergarten place is offered, families will receive a letter of offer, Acceptance of Enrolment form and Enrolment Contract to complete and return, which requires payment of a non-refundable Acceptance Fee ($500) and refundable Security Bond ($1,500) to secure a place.

Children offered a place in 4-year-old Kindergarten are also offered the option of joining Ring-a-Rosie (3-year-old Kinder) the year before.

Class 7

Class 7 is the second main entry point into MRSS. We consider a range of criteria for enrolment, including whether they are siblings of existing students, the date of application, the student’s previous Steiner education, whether they are children of staff or past MRSS students, the social and cultural fabric of the current class, and the capacity to pay school fees.

All Class 7 applications are placed on a waiting list. Families are invited to confirm their interest in the Class 7 entry selection process, and families are then invited to attend a Class 7 Information Evening in Term 1 of the year before commencement.

After the Information Evening prospective students and their families are invited for an interview. (Please note, an interview does not guarantee a place.)

After the interview process, families will be notified of the outcome via email. If a Class 7 place is offered, families will receive a letter of offer, Acceptance of Enrolment form and Enrolment Contract to complete and return, which requires payment of a non-refundable Acceptance Fee ($500) and refundable Security Bond ($1,500) to secure a place. If a place is not offered, families have the option of remaining on the waiting list for consideration for future entry.

Prep to 12

When a vacancy arises in a class at MRSS, we look to our waiting lists to fill that vacancy.

We consider a range of criteria including:

  • whether children are siblings of existing students
  • the date of application
  • the child’s previous Steiner education
  • whether they are children of staff or past MRSS students
  • the social and cultural fabric of the current class
  • the family’s capacity to pay school fees.

Once a potential vacancy becomes available, prospective students and their families are required to supply two recent school reports and are then invited for an interview. (Please note, an interview does not guarantee a place.)

After the interview process, families will be notified of the outcome via email. If a place is offered, families will receive a letter of offer, Acceptance of Enrolment form and Enrolment Contract to complete and return, which requires payment of a non-refundable Acceptance Fee ($500) and refundable Security Bond ($1,500) to secure a place. If a place is not offered, families have the option of remaining on the waiting list for consideration for future entry.
