Philosophy & Values

Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love and send them forth in freedom.

Rudolf Steiner

Our Philosophy

MRSS strives to create an environment where not only the thinking but also the will and the feelings of the child can flourish. We nurture healthy emotional development in children by allowing their feeling life to develop and grow. Through our artistically enlivened, experiential, and developmentally appropriate approach to education, children can cultivate their own impulses of healthy action and initiative.

We recognise that school is a journey illuminated by truth and fuelled by the warmth of a community dedicated to improving our world. Through our loving interest and dedication to ‘the art of teaching,’ we empower students to discover their unique capabilities. Our teaching is a heartfelt commitment to every child’s boundless potential, delivered with academic rigour and infused with imagination and love.

We celebrate each step in a child’s educational journey, from the Early Years right through to VCE, cherishing their path to becoming responsible global citizens. Our constant challenge is to instill in our students a deep understanding of the world and humanity so they can live in freedom.

With each new generation, we welcome fresh, unique impulses that enrich our school community. We endeavour to shape an educational system that enables each child to share their exceptional gifts with the world.

Wellbeing & Inclusion

Our broad curriculum is designed to meet the particular stage of life and unique qualities of every student. We place a strong emphasis on happy social interactions and strong, dynamic relationships. We maintain an environment where children and young people are safe, where their participation is valued, their views are respected and their voices are heard.

We deeply value the diversity of our school community and celebrate the power and positive influences this diversity contributes towards creating a tolerant, inclusive and vibrant school environment that fosters sharing, learning and connection between all peoples.

We encourage all members of our community to become active participants in the cultural, social and spiritual life of our school, and to cherish the deep sense of belonging that this unity brings to our students.

A Culturally Safe Environment

At MRSS we welcome students from a diverse range of cultural, religious and linguistic backgrounds.

As a school, we actively celebrate and appreciate the strengths of Australia’s First Nations peoples and their culture and we strive to acknowledge, respect and protect the inherent rights and needs of all Indigenous Australians.

Throughout our curriculum, there is an embedded reverence, acknowledgement and study of cultures, religions and languages from around the world, including Australia’s First Nations peoples.

Our attitude towards inclusion permeates our whole curriculum and the culture within our school.

Student Welfare

Student welfare is primarily maintained by the Class Teacher in the Primary Years (Classes 1–6), and Class Guardians in the Secondary Years (Class 7 to Year 12). Our teachers strive to establish strong relationships with students and their parents based on openness and trust.

Parents and Class Teachers/Guardians meet on a regular basis, offering the opportunity to share concerns and discuss issues. Parents are also welcome to contact Class Teachers/Guardians or Subject Teachers directly if there are concerns.

Families and staff can also access support from the school’s Student Welfare Coordinator via Class Teachers/Guardians. If it is felt a student may require counselling or further assessment from a child psychologist or other allied health professional, the Student Welfare Coordinator can advise on the best course of action.
